Mitch was commissioned to memorialize a New York City fireman, originally from Montserrat, who was lost on "9/11" and the 19 Montserratians who were killed in the disastrous volcanic eruption of June 25, 1997. The two wings of the sculpture represent the flight of these dearly departed to their heavenly rest. The installation was purposely tilted forward to convey a feeling of flight. On the left wing is depicted a shield representing the fireman and on the right a 19 pointed splintered star to represent the victims of the volcanic eruption.
